About Us

transcribe diary, journal, love letter

Kirsten Cronin grew up in the 1970s in Western Massachusetts, where her mother, Kitty Axelson-Berry was a writer and editor.

It was in 1997, when her oldest child was two, that Kirsten began transcribing oral histories for her mother, who had by then founded Modern Memoirs (www.modernmemoirs.com) and the Association of Personal Historians (www.personalhistorians.org).In 2005 when her third child was born, Kirsten started her transcription business, Kirsten Transcribes. What began as a favor had turned into a part-time business venture out of her home office.

In the fall of 2009 the business had grown so much that it was time to relocate into its current downtown Rockland, Maine office suite. The move was a terrific one for both the business and the family, with the new office being within walking distance to her son’s school, Watershed (www.watershed-school.org), and all that downtown Rockland has to offer, as well as a playroom for her younger children.

Kirsten Transcribes is a member of the Penobscot Bay Regional Chamber of Commerce (www.therealmaine.com)Maine Women’s Network (www.mainewomensnetwork.org) and the Association of Personal Historians (www.personalhistorians.org). Of her work Kirsten says, “I look forward to sitting at my desk to start a new project. I find myself laughing, sighing and crying through the story. I feel blessed that I can be a part of each and every story I work on. In short, this has become much more than a job for me, it has become a passion.”

In their spare time Kirsten and her family enjoy sailing their Friendship Sloop, Rights of Man, on beautiful Penobscot Bay in Mid-Coast Maine.
